Vitamin D is again in the news. This time a new study suggests that low levels of vitamin D may be linked to an increased risk of cognitive impairment in older adults. Senior citizens–and their loved ones–might want to pay attention to any lowering of mental alertness and review the amount of Vitamin D available through exposure to sunshine and inclusion of fish, eggs, and fortified milk in the diet. If a correlation may be present, consider sharing the article “Vitamin D and Cognitive Function” with your family physician. This article was compiled by Natural Standards Research Collaboration and presented in their February 2009 issue of Natural Standard’s Integrative Medicine Newsletter.
