Relevant options to enhance
your health

The American Holistic Health Association (AHHA) offers a free monthly Special Updates email report that includes a Featured Research item. The goal is to present research that may be relevant as you (and your healthcare support team) consider health-enhancing lifestyle and treatment options. Through the years AHHA has used a number of sources that generously provided us appropriate research to be included in the eReports. These sources were selected because of their known high standards for evaluating research. One source, Aisle 7, is unfortunately no longer in this database. The new parent company for Aisle 7 discontinued this project and according to our agreement AHHA was required to remove all of their articles.

Anxiety - Music

Appropriately selected music can have a calming or sedating effect. A recent study has found that if you are anxious about a medical procedure, listening to soft, melodic music (but not hard rock or rap) may help you be less anxious. The calming effects of music might also help you reduce the amount of sedation you need. Consider how you might adapt this effect for other situations in your life when you need to remain calm and focused. For more details to research for yourself and/or to discuss with your physician, check out the article, “Music Therapy for Reduced Anxiety, Use of Sedatives” in the June, 2013, issue of Natural Standard’s Integrative Medicine Newsletter.
