Melatonin, a supplement most well known for aiding sleep and recovery from jet lag, may also reduce the severity of tinnitus, possibly by improving sleep, a new study shows. The study included 24 adult long-term tinnitus sufferers, with an average age of 61. Three mg per day of melatonin was taken one to two hours before bedtime for four weeks, followed by four weeks of observation. Tinnitus continued to improve after the melatonin was discontinued, suggesting a lasting effect.
